HIPS
High Impact Polystyrene

Rubber-modified polystyrene for impact-resistant sheet and mouldings.

(C₈H₈)ₙ CAS 9003-53-6 Polymers & Plastics

01 Overview

HIPS is GPPS modified with polybutadiene rubber, trading optical clarity for a large gain in impact strength and toughness. It thermoforms cleanly and takes printing and decoration well, which makes it the standard choice for refrigerator liners, food service packaging and appliance housings.

02 Grades traded

  • Sheet extrusion grades
  • Injection moulding grades
  • High gloss grades
  • High impact grades

03 Typical specification

Melt flow rate
2 – 12 g/10 min (grade dependent)
Density
1.03 – 1.05 g/cm³
